The Dream?

Ever wondered why so many Maldivians go abroad for studies?

I am The Dreamer. The Maldives is also my home.

People say that in the past few decades, the Maldives has seen remarkable improvements in many fields, with education being one of them. This is true to some extent. But, to say it is remarkable would be an overstatement. We are still plagued by issues such as limited higher education choices and opportunities and lack of qualified teachers. Most alarming of all is the wide gap between the education standard of the islands to that of the capital, Male'.

Why can't we have islands exclusively developed for education? Wouldn't this be the ideal solution for the educational problems?

These ideal 'Student Islands' could have affiliations with international educational institutions, offering world class education with well equipped research facilities, libraries and laboratories. These would attract international and national students creating an engaging multi-cultural environment on these islands enabling an interesting and unique experience for the students.

The living standard of these islands should complement the standard of education available. To this effect, the Student Islands would have to be fully functional cities. Facilities and services such as condominiums, restaurants, cafe's, convenience stores, recreation halls, health care facilities etc. could be made available.

Do you think these dreams of mine are too far-fetched? But eh...I am The Dreamer. These are my dreams.
